Does the PowerTool unexpectedly disconnect during usage?
Definitely make sure that you are running the latest version of the Apple iOS. Unless your still on an early version of iOS11, this shouldn't be the issue.
• Have you read this article about network settings?
First thing to check is the "Zero Movement Timeout" - once connected to Bluetooth you can open the PowerTool Tab (bottom left corner) in the App and check the default. The default is 15mins, so it should stay connected when in use an will disconnect after "x" mins of inactivity.
Check that this is not set to 5 Mins.

If the issue still persists, there could be the case when say, with a deadlift exercise that the unit can disconnect the Bluetooth accidentally.
There is a small magnet located in the silicon tube section of the tether - just down from the velcro strap. This magnet is used to perform a "soft reset" and therefore the bluetooth will disconnect if this happens.
When its placed atop of the lid on the GA PowerTool, just below the letter "G" in GymAware it can align with a sensor beneath the top cover and then a reset will occur. In the case that this could happen it would be with bumper plates that are smaller in diameter.
When the bar is returned to the floor, there is excess tether between the PowerTool and the bar so that it folds over itself - and can inadvertently trigger the reset, as the magnet in the silicon tube, sits atop the sensor under the lid.
